Partnerships

We are fortunate in Scoil Ide to be part of an active community here in Salthill and Galway. Likewise, our school is seen as a very valued part of our community. Strong links with local clubs have been established. During the course of the year, many clubs offer coaching sessions to our students:
Aquatics in Leisureland takes place in Term three for Second and Third class.
Hurling is taught to first class for six-eight weeks, by a GAA coach in Aras Na Tra.
Gaelic Football is taught to first and second class by Salthill GAA.
Coached soccer skills with an FAI coach are available for some classes in Term 3.
Sixth class participate in touch rugby training and competitions during term 3.
Olympic handball is introduced in First class. Senior classes participate in local competitions throughout the year. A strong partnership has been established with Scoil Éinde. We play in the mixed Olympic handball competition with the boys. Some classes also use the hall in the boys school for PE, on a weekly basis.
FAI Spar Soccer competition for Fourth and Fifth classes Cross Country competitions for 4th, 5th and 6th classes provided by the Galway Athletics Association and Cumann Na mBunscol Children are given the opportunity to take part in City Sports which takes place in May.
TriHeros programme for 3rd-6th (initiative introduced by Triathlon Ireland) The girls in 5th and 6th class are given the opportunity to take part in cycling, running and swimming workshops.
